Pterygotus was the largest Arthropod of all, time, being closely followed by the giant millipede Arthropleura .

[edit] Characteristics and Appearance

Pterygotus was a Giant sea scorpion as long as a car. Although it belonged to the group eurypterid (sea scorpion), it had a more Lobster-like appearance. During the time which it lived (Silurian-Devonian) it probably fed on the likes of Brontoscorpio and Cephalaspis. Fossils have been found in seas worldwide except for the Antarctic. It wa closely related to the Arthropod Slimonia.
